Governor Makinde declares Amotekun operational with 1,500 officers in Oyo

Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has pledged to ensure immediate local response to any external invasion in the state henceforth with the support of the Oyo state security network agency, codenamed Amotekun. The Governor gave the assurance during the passing out ceremony of about 1,500 newly recruited pioneer personnel of Amotekun corps, at the Emmanuel Alayande College of education sport complex.

Governor Makinde explained that the Amotekun corps would be drafted across the 351 wards of the state to play significant role in community policing and collaborating with other security agencies in addressing all forms of crime and criminality in Oyo state. Reiterating his desire for state policing, Governor Makinde stressed that he should be held responsible for any unjust act from the Amotekun corps, while urging personnel of the corps to be professional in the discharge of their functions.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the chairman of the security agency, retired Brigadier General Kunle Togun said the readiness of the corps to carry out its function would greatly impact on the pursuit for the social economic emancipation of Yorubaland and commended the Governor for ensuring Oyo state is truly secured.
